Rå Sjømat AS
Norwegian producer of Bottarga
The Norwegians have, for generations, thrived along this hard, rugged coastline and made their living by the sea. Since long before the Viking Era we have harvested from these waters. Rå Sjømat wants to carry this legacy into the future by respecting and honouring every man and woman who risk their lives and livelihoods on the ocean every day. We combine love for the craftmanship of sustainable fishing with a classleading product. Every winter, the Codfish seeks refuge in our coastal waters to spawn. We utilize the roe, simply salted and dried.

We carefully handpick each roe to make sure of its immaculate quality. Then, we carefully add salt and start the drying and aging process. Each roe is then checked again before packaging and shipping.

The people of Nordmøre have for centuries made a living from the cold waters of the North Sea. As an area known for its clipfish exports since 1690 AD. The svaberg of this area was perfect for outdoor drying of the Codfish and Ling. In the months of March, April and May, the production was at its peak, creating the foundations of a big export industry. Today, traces of this production can be seen everywhere and you will still find producers of clipfish in Nordmøre. Thousands of tourists visit the area each year, either by car to see the beautiful Atlantic road, or by cruise ship. The Norwegian Hurtigruten also passes by and has a port in the city of Kristiansund, thus making the area an important hub for tourism, industry and seafood.
